Role description:
This is a key role supporting Systems Engineering activities across the River-Class Destroyer Programme lifecycle. Responsibilities include developing engineering plans, processes, and procedures to meet evolving technical and operational need; managing the engineering lifecycle and associated technical risks; and providing assurance to customers and internal stakeholders that the desired performance is being met by the evolving design. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the River-Class Destroyer product has the right design and has been designed right.
Core Duties:
- You will be applying Systems Thinking to understand the wider problem space to help lead, develop and educate engineering teams to ensure they are aware and capable of delivering their accountabilities through the engineering lifecycle
- You will support the setting, management and reporting on measures associated with project maturity to provide assurance to the customer and internal stakeholders that the desired performance is being met and maintained by the evolving design
- You will support in the development and maintenance of engineering and assurance processes, responding to technical developments and operational need
- You will support the preparation of integrated warship design models, drawings, and specifications, while assessing technology readiness and preparing governance reviews through accurate, timely reporting and stakeholder coordination.
- Through good technical expertise & management, you will support the conduct of reviews, manage risks and issues, ensure governance expectations are met, and deliver work packages to cost, schedule and quality.
Essential skills:
- Degree-qualified (or with equivalent experience) in a relevant technology, engineering, science, or IT discipline, and either holding or working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with a recognised professional institution.
- Good understanding of key systems engineering principles/methodologies and the engineering lifecycle, competence and capability with systems engineering tools
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and management skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams. Working knowledge of warship or large complex product (System of Systems’) design processes, assurance activities and inter-relationships and design delivery would be advantageous
The River Class Destroyer (RCD) Systems Engineering team:
Join the River Class Destroyer Systems Engineering team within the Office of the Chief Engineer, supporting governance, assurance systems engineering management activities across the programme lifecycle. You will manage key engineering processes, engage stakeholders, and promote Systems Engineering best practice to ensure design integrity and performance.
