The Role
Are you a pharmacy technician looking for a new challenge? NHS Lanarkshire’s Mental Health and Learning Disability (MHLD) Pharmacy team have an exciting opportunity for enthusiastic clinical pharmacy technicians to join our growing team of dedicated pharmacy professionals.
We have openings for two clinical pharmacy technician fixed term posts (12 months) to support the work of NHS Lanarkshire’s MHLD pharmacy team in delivering safe, effective, timely and patient-centred pharmaceutical care to mental health services in NHS Lanarkshire and to ensure that patients derive maximum benefit and minimum harm from their medicines.
These posts are an excellent opportunity for highly motivated individuals who wants to develop their clinical and technical skills, have a passion for improving the lives of people living with mental health conditions and thrive in working with a dedicated and welcoming pharmacy team.
One post will be based with the MHLD pharmacy team at University Hospital Hairmyres and one post will be based with the MHLD pharmacy team at University Hospital Wishaw, working closely with the wider pharmacy hospital team. There be a need to travel across NHS Lanarkshire as part of this role.
The MHLD pharmacy team use Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HEPMA), electronic patient notes and digital solutions to support their work and this role would provide an excellent opportunity for innovative individuals looking for a new challenge. The successful candidate will use their knowledge and skills to support the MHLD clinical pharmacy team in delivering pharmaceutical care to ensure patients get the best possible outcomes from their medicine.
You must be a team-player and work well as part of pharmacy and multidisciplinary teams, as well as be able to work independently during daily activities. You must have the ability to plan and prioritise your own workload to meet the needs of the patients and the pharmacy team.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. You will be involved in education and training of other pharmacy personnel and other members of the healthcare team.

What we'll need you to bring
- National Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent
- SVQ Level III
- Registered pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council
- Dispensary checking qualification.
- Commitment to CPD as per GPhC recommendations.
- Substantial experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy.
- Experience in dispensing Discharge/OPD/in-patient prescriptions.
- Experience in providing a ward/department stock top-up service.
- Experience in supervision of other staff or of a functional area of pharmacy.
- Thorough understanding of hospital pharmacy services.
- Computer skills/key board skills.
- Ability to organise and prioritise work.
It would be great if you also have
- Post qualification experience as a qualified pharmacy technician in hospital pharmacy service
Contract type
- Fixed Term or Secondment for 12 Months
- Full time
- 37hours
- Part-time or job share will be considered.
Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 Months . Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location and Working Pattern
One post will be based with the MHLD pharmacy team at University Hospital Hairmyres and one post will be based with the MHLD pharmacy team at University Hospital Wishaw
