Our Mental Health Inpatient Services are recruiting Band 3 Health Care Support Workers to three of its inpatient units that are based at Midpark Hospital If you are interested and feel you meet the requirements for the roles please specify in the first assessment question on the application which post(s) you are interested and what hours you can work.

Ettrick Ward - Part time 30 hours per week - Fixed Term until 31st March 2027
Ettrick is 17 bed adult admissions ward that provides assessment and treatment for adults requiring acute mental health support. Admissions cover a broad range of mental health needs with a focus on stabilisation and recovery. We get good feedback from patients with our team described as kind and approachable.
Cree Ward - Part time 30 hours per week - Permanent
Cree Ward supports our older adults and is a specialist acute assessment unit for people with actual or suspected cognitive impairment as a result of dementia. Like Ettrick the team receive great feedback from patients and their families and is very focused on person centred care.
Working with older adults can be so rewarding and skills learnt on this ward can also be used elsewhere across the care sector and at our Frailty units in Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI).
Nithsdale Ward - Part time 24 hours per week - Fixed term until 1st November 2026
Our 17 bedded, Nithsdale ward provides a warm and supportive inpatient environment for working age adults with functional mental health conditions. Like the other wards our patients have access to our peaceful grounds around the hospital that include therapeutic features that allow our patients to exercise, meet in a calm space with their families and provides a safe outdoor space for reflection and recovery. Our aim is to ensure all our patients feel safe, listened to and can access the right treatment to improve their mental health.
About the roles
All roles will work under the supervision of a Registered Care Professional and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality clinical care, ensuring that standards of practice are consistently maintained and patient experience is enhanced. All new starters will be fully inducted and supported in their role.
Excellent communication skills are essential, and applicants must be able to demonstrate the skills and abilities required to work effectively within a clinical team to support safe and effective care delivery. Previous experience as a Health Care Support Worker is desirable.

As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
