A Trainee Site Manager at SP Transmission plays a pivotal role in the delivery of major transmission infrastructure projects across Central and Southern Scotland.
Whatyou'llbe doing
During the18-24‑month programme,you willundergo extensive on‑the‑job learning—shadowing experienced managers across overhead lines, substations, cable networks, civil works, and electrical installations—while simultaneously working toward a CIOB Certificate and Diploma in Site Management.This pathway suits individuals with supervisory experience in the transmission sector,possessingtechnical knowledge anda track recordof leading teams or works packages. On the other hand, qualified candidates lacking experience, such as those with electrical, civil engineering, or construction management qualifications, willbenefitfrom on-the-job learning, coaching, and mentoring from seasoned Site and Construction managers. The duration of the development will vary based on individual qualifications, with successful candidates from both pathways expecting the programme to take between eighteen months to two years for completion.
Yourresponsibilities include planning, coordinating, and monitoring contractor activities on site,establishingand maintaining a robust safety culture, and overseeing construction and commissioning stages.You willensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards (including inspections, material testing, daily progress records, and weekly progress meetings), manage design change processes with engineering teams, and interface with operational staff like protection engineers and senior authorisers. Upon successful completion, trainees are expected to be fully capable of stepping into a Site Manager role, fully equipped to coordinate large-scale projects, manage multi-disciplinary teams, and ensuretimelydelivery within SP Transmission’s drive toward a sustainable, Net Zero energy network.

As a Trainee Site Manager, we are in search of individuals who are enthusiastic aboutacquiringnew skills and advancing in their careers. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the Construction and Utilities sector at a supervisory level, who have been involved in construction projects or have obtained a degree in Electrical, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management, andpossessa valid driving license. We provide two distinct pathways tailored tocandidates' experience and background. For candidates with practical experience, the successful candidate willparticipatein a development program for supervisors or less-experienced managers, in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Builders (CIOB).
