At ScottishPower, our people are the driving force behind everything we achieve. Their energy, expertise and ambition power our success — and we’re looking for individuals who share that passion to help shape the future of our Transmission business within SP Energy Networks.
With major investment underway and some of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in our history, our Transmission teams are delivering essential upgrades that will transform how energy is transmitted across the South of Scotland. From large‑scale network developments to future‑focused expansion, the work you’ll be part of will play a critical role in enabling a cleaner, greener energy system.
We’re now looking for a Site Manager (Civils) — a pivotal role within the SPT Major Projects team, responsible for managing construction outputs and leading the safe delivery of civils work packages across our Transmission projects.
As part of a multi‑disciplined delivery team — including Construction Managers, Project Managers, HSQE Consultants, Quantity Surveyors and Design Engineers — you’ll support the planning and successful execution of major substation and transmission infrastructure projects.
As the primary on‑site representative, you will take confident ownership of civil construction activity and provide technical support and oversight throughout the delivery phase.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll lead the on‑site management and delivery of contracted civils works packages, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and CDM 2015.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as Principal Contractor on site, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Environmental and CDM regulations
- Ensuring constructability and working methods align with design drawings, engineering standards and technical requirements
- Providing technical expertise on all aspects of civil and structural works, inspection regimes and testing requirements
- Driving commercial and programme performance — monitoring time, cost and quality against agreed plans
- Coordinating with Transmission Planners and Operational teams to ensure safe system access and minimise network impacts
- Establishing and monitoring contractor quality management systems to achieve compliance and optimise lifecycle performance
- Managing environmental obligations and supporting sustainability and biodiversity targets
- Engaging effectively with landowners, stakeholders, local authorities and regulatory bodies
- Working collaboratively with contractors to ensure safe, productive and positive site environments
What you’ll bring
You’ll thrive in a contractor‑focused environment, leading site teams and navigating the challenges of complex transmission construction projects.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
- Significant experience in managing civils construction works within a transmission or heavy infrastructure environment
- Strong understanding of civil and structural design drawings, inspection processes, and testing regimes
- Knowledge of temporary works, groundworks, foundations, structures and associated civils activities in a substation setting
- Experience delivering the Principal Contractor role under CDM regulations
- Awareness of NEC contract conditions
- Excellent leadership, negotiation and influencing skills
- Strong planning and organisational capability
- Confidence working in remote, challenging environments with a high degree of autonomy
- Proficiency with IT systems and Microsoft Office
- A proactive, safety‑driven approach and strong team‑working skills
- Ability to maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Minimum Requirements
- HND in Engineering/Construction or equivalent site management experience (Power sector desirable)
- Strong IT skills
- Full UK driving licence
- Current SMSTS (5‑day) qualification
Overtime Payments
- Mon–Sat (8pm–midnight): Time & ½
- Mon–Sat (midnight–8am): Double Time
- Sundays: Double Time
Overtime is optional.
