The Stakeholder Engagement Lead is responsible for delivering effective stakeholder and community engagement strategies in a geographical region for projects across the full breadth of the SPT portfolio. The role holder will manage a team of Community Liaison Officers and a Content Creator with the objective to protect and enhance our corporate reputation and promote awareness of the SP Energy Networks’ brand by building strong relationships across the licence area.
The role will ensure proactive communication and ongoing engagement throughout the project lifecycle - development, consenting and delivery phases of major transmission investment projects – and will be responsible for directing the work of the team on a day-to-day basis as well as leveraging in active support from corporate functions (Media, Government Affairs & Communications) as and when required.
The role will also include the fostering of collaboration with contractors to drive social value, manage events, media, and digital content to maintain a positive profile. By implementing efficient engagement processes, capturing feedback, and evaluating effectiveness, this position contributes to transparency, trust, and the successful delivery of strategic business objectives.
What you’ll be doing
Support the Stakeholder & Community Liaison Manager to deliver consistently high levels of stakeholder engagement internally and externally across the Licence area. This would include developing bespoke communication plans covering the full-life cycle of each project and managing their implementation throughout.
Support the development and implementation of community stakeholder and consultation as part of the consenting process for transmission investment projects – positively influencing approach and by planning, developing and delivering communications plans and materials and supporting all external engagement.
Lead a region-focused team to build positive and beneficial local relationships to enhance consenting and delivery engagement throughout the full project life cycle.
Develop relationships with framework contractors and lead partnership working to create and deliver, social value and positive and proactive community engagement.
Support stakeholder, community engagement and consenting processes for Strategic and Core projects by creating and managing communications plans, developing materials and leading on community-based meetings, briefings and activities.
Develop and deliver communications activity to support, promote and positively profile all aspects of our stakeholder and community engagement, the consenting process and development and delivery of major transmission investment projects.
Lead and direct team to enable development opportunities, managing the day-to-day activities of their team and also organising the pipeline of work, for the short and long-term, assessing against the resource capacity of the team.
What you’ll bring
- Degree Professional qualification in Communications, or equivalent qualification and / or experience
- Experience in developing and maintaining stakeholder networks both internally and externally.
- Proven experience of excellent engagement and community liaison across all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Proven experience of working across multiple types and sizes of projects, ensuring stakeholder and engagement plans are appropriate and measured.
- Excellent interpersonal skills enabling role holder to build and maintain strong working relationships to build credibility and trust within the team, the wider business and external stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate and present information effectively at all levels both verbally and written to internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage competing priorities using sound judgement to determine options and solutions.
- Capability to manage and influence challenging discussions / situations at all levels.
- Understanding of key business drivers and the external commercial context in which SP is operating.
- Ability to manage bespoke projects to ensure positive and ongoing stakeholder engagement.
- Managerial experience, ideally in a project or energy industry environment.
- Full UK Driver licence
