The post holder will act as an Anatomical Pathology Technologist who participates in a Mortuary and Post Mortems Service. They will undertake both hospital and medico-legal post mortems and storage of remains. Excellent people skills are essential due to the need to deal face to face with bereaved relatives following traumatic incidents. Good physical fitness is also essential as there will be a need to exert intense physical effort for several short periods during the working day.
As a trainee APT you will be expected to complete a period of training and will be expected to attain the RSPH Diploma Level 3 in Anatomical Pathology Technology.
The post holder will also participate in the routine workload of the Cellular Pathology Laboratory. This will include specimen reception, microtomy, embedding and non-gynae cytology specimen preparation.
The department works a 5 day week, however the successful applicant will have to participate in the out of hour’s on-call rota as the Mortuary provides a 24 hour service 365 days a year.
Essential qualifications for this post is to have good standard of general education (at least 5 standard grades), and a higher in a science subject. Previous experience of working in the funeral profession is also essential.
Applicants must also be self-motivated and have excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise their own workload.
