The Role
As part of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide an efficient portering service within University Hospital Wishaw, Perioperative Department. This covers Theatre, Day Surgery Unit (DSU), and Endoscopy with focus on patient care escorting to and from the Perioperative departments and other departments within the hospital. The safe disposal of waste, delivery and movement of items, such as records, mail, specimens, and blood products, and other duties adhering to health and safety requirements of service users.
In this key role, you will:
- Be responsible for transferring patients to and from the Theatre department as a priority. When able, they will also support the transferring of patients within DSU and Endoscopy
- Escort patients by bed or trolleys
- Collect empty beds from ward areas in preparation for post-operative patients
- Deliver laboratory specimens to appropriate department
- Transfer blood products between the labs and Perioperative department following completion of appropriate training
- Exchange clinical waste bins
What You'll Bring:
- Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to carry out assigned tasks effectively in a busy environment
- Working knowledge of basic information technology
You will be required to undertake on the job training and induction (this will generally take 4-6 weeks, depending on hours/days worked), to achieve full competency across a range of duties.
