The Role
First level registered nurse, AHP, Social Worker or Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology, providing specialist psychological therapies service to patients with mental health presentations referred to secondary or specialist mental health services.
To provide a high quality mental health service to Care Experienced Children (formerly LAAC) across NHS Lanarkshire. This includes working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the department’s policies and procedures. This includes:
- Provision of expert advice to social work staff on the mental health needs of care experienced children through consultation. This may take the form of consultation to staff groups.
- To provide individual therapy to children and their carers, or both, utilising current attachment based interventions and other therapeutic modalities as required.
- To deliver training to residential staff and foster carers on the mental health needs of Care Experienced children.
- To offer advice to other CAMHS staff in respect of Care Experienced children when required.
- To provide reports and relevant assessments to the Children’s Hearing, Secure screening panels and Care Experienced Reviews.
Additional Information Specific to the Role
This post in based in the Care Experienced CAMHS team based in Coathill Hospital. The team currently consists of Clinical Psychologists, Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists, Child & Adolescent Mental Health Clinician. The team provides a service to Children’s Houses, and children in foster care, across Lanarkshire incorporating North & South Lanarkshire Councils.
The main area of work is consultation to social work staff and the team around the child, consultation to individual children’s houses, direct clinical work with children and their carers and the provision of training to residential staff and foster carers. The work has a complex systemic component. The team works very much from an attachment and trauma perspective and so training in, and knowledge of, current research and developments in the field of attachment and trauma would be highly desirable.

What we'll need you to bring
- Registered Nurse, AHP or Social Worker or be a qualified as a child trained Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) evidence of relevant experience and appropriate post registration training that fulfils the competences of this post
- Further education/evidence of continuous professional development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification.
- Educated to /operating at Masters Degree Level.
- Educated to or undertaking Post Graduate Certificate / Diploma Qualification level in an evidence based psychological therapy/appropriate intervention as recognised in the National Psychological Therapies Matrix for the intended client group.
- The post holder will possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative.
- Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft IT Packages
- Full, valid UK/EU/EEA drivers licence

- Knowledge of evidence-base in their practice.

- Knowledge of audit and evaluation.
- Recent practice with children and families with mental health problems or learning disability.
- Multi-disciplinary team working experience and experience of working collaboratively with other agencies.
- Experience in the delivery of training.
- Further education/evidence of continuous professional development in area of speciality including study day/courses/post graduate qualification.
- Knowledge and basic understanding of systems, psychodynamic and cognitive approaches to recognition of when each is appropriate.
- Knowledge of audit and evaluation.
- Training in Attachment, Theory and Practice.
