Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations – Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen & Inverness.
Salary: £58,100 - £87,100 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

As part of SSEN Transmissions Offshore Portfolio of works, we have an opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our newly formed Offshore AC Project Engineering team to help drive forward our Island projects and successfully deliver a network for Net Zero. Our Island projects facilitate the connection to our HVDC systems and include state-of the-art AC plant, grid control and stabilisation technology.
You will
- Review and support a variety of civil design proposals and scopes through the development and execution phases of UGC, OHL, and Substation projects, including site/route selection, ground investigation specification, earthworks designs, public road upgrade and landscaping for proposed assets.
-Understand and manage key engineering interfaces between civil engineering aspects of substation projects and other engineering disciples (Electric Plant/Building Services/Underground Cable) and management of engineering and interface risks.
-Coordinate and manage civil engineering activities across a substation project, including design reviews, management of design change, deviations, TQs and RFIs and site supervision.
-Drive decision making and support other projects through peer review of key issues.
-Promote best practice within the Offshore AC engineering Civil team and support and direct junior Civil Engineers within their project team and the wider team, using your technical expertise in collaboration and in conjunction with the other senior/principal Civil Engineers throughout Transmission.
You have
- Demonstrable experience managing the design development for Transmission projects, or complex multi-disciplinary engineering projects and be comfortable to technically assess issues and/or problems and critically assess a range of technical solutions.
- An excellent technical understanding of relevant legislation and technical standards and the implications of these on design development and the Transmission network for both Assets and Projects, including CDM.
- Effective communication skills are essential, and you should be able to communicate complex technical issues clearly and concisely to facilitate decision making by senior management.
- Effective working relationships with key stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally with an appetite for building strong, lasting relationships.
- A degree qualification in Civil Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline and ideally be a Chartered Engineer in a relevant institution or working towards chartered status.
