We Are Hiring: Midwife (Rotational )
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for Registered Midwives to join maternity services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This rotational post will provide experience across a range of maternity settings including labour ward, inpatient wards, community services and specialist assessment areas.
Successful candidates will initially be based within Labour Ward in our obstetric-led units, with opportunities to rotate through other maternity areas.
As a Midwife within our team, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based, woman and baby centred care, supporting women and families throughout pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period while working collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
About Us
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK, employing around 40,000 staff and providing services to a population of over 1.15 million people.
Our maternity services support approximately 12,500–15,000 births annually across:
- 3 maternity hospitals with assessment units
- 2 Community Maternity Units
- Community and homebirth teams

Key Responsibilities
As part of our multidisciplinary maternity team you will:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of care for women and babies
- Advocate for women and families and promote normality in pregnancy, labour and postnatal care
- Provide health education and support to women, partners and families
- Recognise and respond to deviations from normal pregnancy or labour
- Maintain high standards of clinical care in line with policies and evidence-based practice
- Work collaboratively with obstetric, neonatal and wider healthcare teams
- Support and supervise student midwives and junior staff
- Contribute to quality improvement, audit and research initiatives
- Ensure effective communication across maternity services and the wider healthcare system
What We’re Looking For
We welcome applications from candidates who demonstrate:
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Midwife
- Commitment to providing woman and family centred care
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work autonomously and prioritise workload effectively
- Compassion, resilience and professionalism in emotionally complex situations
- Basic IT skills and willingness to engage with electronic maternity systems
A full driving licence is desirable to support community rotation placements.
