The role:
As an integral member of the multi-disciplinary team, the post-holder will work in partnership, demonstrating compassionate caring behaviours to fulfil the key functions of the inpatient ward/department.
The team aims to work in partnership with patients, families, carers and other agencies to ensure care needs are prioritised and that care transitions are safely achieved.
All patients being cared for have a Named Nurse who is tasked with working closely with their identified patients/carers to develop a participative, therapeutic relationship and deliver high-quality nursing care in an environment where patients feel safe and secure.

Base location - Dumbarton Joint Hospital
Key responsibilities:
- Implement and evaluate nursing care programmes using a strengths‑based, recovery‑focused approach that proactively involves the person.
- Undertake duties without direct supervision.
- Carry out assessment and care planning.
- Work in partnership with patients, carers, and other professionals/agencies in line with legislative frameworks, agreed standards, and clinical policies.
- Complete risk assessments and contribute to risk‑management plans in consultation with the multi‑disciplinary team, in compliance with NHSGGC policies and procedures.
- Identify and respond to the needs of patients related to vulnerability, gender, health, domestic abuse, child protection, and/or self‑harm.
- Administer prescribed medication and treatments in accordance with NHSGGC policy, monitor the effectiveness of treatments, and manage any unwanted side effects effectively.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential
- Registered Mental Health Nurse (Level 1 NMC registration)
- Educated to, or actively working towards, degree level or equivalent experience
- Working knowledge and application of mental health nursing, including physical healthcare
- Evidence of active and ongoing CPD
- Evidence of clinical supervision / reflective practice
- Working knowledge of mental health, mental illness, wellness and recovery
- Working knowledge of rights, values‑based practice and legislative frameworks
- Working knowledge of the NMC Code
- Evidence of skills and behaviours including:
- Organisation
- Self‑direction and self‑motivation
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Negotiation, influencing and persuading
- Facilitation
- Conflict resolution
- Decision‑making
- Ability to work flexibly, prioritise workload, and deliver person‑centred care without direct supervision
- Ability to form therapeutic, professional relationships and work effectively as part of a wider team
- Ability to use digital technology, information systems, email and basic applications
Desirable
- Completion of evidence‑based psychological therapies / psychological approaches training
- Completion of a mentor preparation programme / registered mentor
- Experience of working in an inpatient environment
