With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the SPT Project Design Services team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
SPEN are currently recruiting a Senior Engineer (Electrical Protection & Control) to join the SP Transmission Project Design Services team to develop and implement high quality engineering drawing solutions for Transmission Network Projects (132kV and above).
The postholder will play an important role in delivering accurate, consistent drawing outputs that meet project, safety, and compliance requirements.
This role requires skills in engineering drawing creation, technical expertise within Electrical Protection & Control, and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the discipline.
What you’ll be doing
Prepare Drawings: Developing both feasibility and detailed design drawings for complex transmission / distribution projects.
Ensure Compliance: Supporting adherence to health, safety, quality, and environmental standards within project deliverables.
Workload Management: Support the Discipline Lead in organising and progressing the team’s allocated workload efficiently.
Information Gathering: Collecting relevant information to produce accurate drawings.
Standards Promotion: Communicating and encouraging the use of drawing standards and procedures.
QA Systems: Ensuring your work complies with externally audited QA systems and supporting the discipline in maintaining these standards.
Database Maintenance: Overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of drawing office databases.
Design Change System: Maintaining an auditable design/design change system to facilitate BS EN 9001 accreditation.
Drawing Assessment: Assessing basic and detailed engineering drawings during approval process.
Team Support: Providing guidance and support to team members in their areas of expertise.
Client Delivery: Ensuring timely delivery of high-quality work to clients, achieving high client satisfaction.
Documentation Review: Preparing and reviewing drawing documentation and processes within the Drawing Office.
Communications: Keeping drawing office manager, design leads, project staff and clients updated on work progress and any issues that arise.
What you’ll bring
We are looking for an agile and motivated individual who is passionate about enhancing their own, and the team’s, knowledge and understanding of innovative engineering solutions and designs.
As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
Experience and knowledge in Electrical Protection & Control – Drawing Production at voltages ranging from LV to 400kV to include (all): Circuit Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Single Line Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Construct/Destruct (Red & Green) Modification Process, Relay Panel General Arrangements and AutoCAD/Raster Hybrid Drawing Creation & Manipulation
HNC (or above) in Electrical Engineering or proven engineering experience within Transmission Substation Design - Drawing Office.
Understanding of Engineering Design drawing production in chosen field.
Mentoring or supervisory (indirect) experience within a technical design environment would be advantageous.
A solid understanding of health and safety requirements, and compliance.
Working knowledge of drawing standards and procedures.
Skilled in using 2D Autodesk products, including AutoCAD, Vault, ACC, ProjectWise, Raster Design 2020, and the MS Office suite.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Current driving licence.
