With plans to see SP Energy Networks (SPEN), part of the ScottishPower Group, look to invest over £5bn in transmission projects across our transmission network in central and southern Scotland by 2030, the SPT Project Design Services team will play a key role in supporting SPEN to work at pace to deliver the transmission network that is required to support ambitions Scottish and UK Government 2030 targets.
SPEN are currently recruiting a CAD Designer (Engineering Systems Co-Ordinator) to join the SP Transmission Project Design Services team to provide specialist operational support by ensuring that all hardware, software, licensing, and digital systems required for producing engineering models and drawings are available, reliable, and properly configured.
The postholder will be the functional link between Project Design Services (Drawing Office/DO), Engineering, IT, and the Centre of Excellence (CoE). They coordinate system access, manages engineering software environments, oversees controlled deployments, and ensures that digital tools remain aligned with DO standards, workflows, and governance structures.
This role supports the Drawing Office leadership in delivering efficient, accurate, and compliant technical outputs across all design activities by maintaining visibility and control of engineering systems.
What you’ll be doing
Systems & Platform Support
Coordinate the allocation, setup, replacement, and recovery of engineering desktops, laptops, monitors, and peripherals.
Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of SPEN hardware standards and their compatibility with engineering software requirements.
Serve as the first point of contact for IT‑related issues affecting DO and Engineering users, ensuring timely escalation and resolution.
Plan and manage a portfolio of systems, platforms, and configurations to meet operational needs.
Software & Licensing Management
Administer Autodesk licences (AutoCAD, Revit, Vault, ACC), managing seat allocation, compliance, and Named User assignments.
Coordinate installation, updates, patches, and controlled deployments of engineering software and extensions.
Perform functional testing to validate stability, performance, and suitability of CAD/BIM software for Drawing Office deliverables.
Assess the wider impact of software version changes and configuration updates across interconnected engineering systems.
Engineering Data & Digital System Administration
Administer access rights, roles, and folder structures across Autodesk Vault, ProjectWise, ACC, and engineering data platforms.
Ensure compliance with Drawing Office workflows, naming conventions, revision rules, and data governance standards.
Conduct regular audits of permissions, access patterns, and licensing to maintain secure and compliant systems.
User Access & Onboarding
Coordinate new‑starter requirements including hardware setup, software installation, permissions assignment, and DO‑specific system onboarding.
Manage leaver processes, ensuring hardware recovery, licence de‑allocation, and account deactivation.
Update access permissions and software assignments to support internal role changes.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
Work closely with IT and the CoE on planned upgrades, software rollouts, system improvements, and issue resolution.
Provide testing outcomes, risk assessments, and user‑impact analysis for engineering toolsets.
Communicate system changes clearly and support users during transition periods.
Assist the Drawing Office Manager with issues affecting digital workflows, system performance, or technology deployment.
What you’ll bring
As a minimum, you will demonstrate:
HNC in CAD, Engineering, Technology, or related discipline
Strong understanding of digital working practices for engineering collaboration and data management
Knowledge of project delivery processes and engineering deliverables
Experience with AutoCAD, Revit, Vault, ACC, and ProjectWise
Understanding of engineering workflows, Drawing Office standards, and governance processes
Ability to diagnose and resolve common hardware/software issues in engineering environments
Ability to work independently and manage competing digital system demands
Experience performing functional testing of CAD/BIM software
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of drawing/model standards and procedures
Knowledge of Autodesk licensing models and Named User management
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, MS Teams, Power Automate, Power BI, and related digital productivity tools, or the ability to confidently communicate on these topics with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
