Applications are invited for Consultant Psychiatrists working in the Older Adult directorate of NHS Grampian’s Mental Health and Learning Disability services.
The Consultants will be responsible for the provision of Older Adult Mental Health services based in a designated catchment team within either Aberdeen City or Aberdeenshire, linked to an appropriate number of General Practices. In addition to this you will have responsibility for the acute admission beds at Royal Cornhill Hospital and for Aberdeenshire patients in Community based hospitals.
These posts are based at Royal Cornhill Hospital, a modern Psychiatric Hospital with a range of specialties, in close vicinity to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. One of the attractions of working in Aberdeenshire is a tradition of close working with colleagues from General Practice and the local authority. Since April 2016 this has been formalised as an Integrated Joint Board.
Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire thrive as centres of administration, education, tourism and trade with agricultural, service and textile industries. Situated in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky country, the area offers a wide range of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and winter sports. This is an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland that offers a great quality of life and has good transport links with the rest of the UK.
The post holders will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
The post holders will be expected to register with the Continuing Professional Development Programme of the Royal College of Psychiatrists for which all costs will be met by NHS Grampian. There are opportunities for research and close links exist between the Service and the Departments of Mental Health and Psychology of the University of Aberdeen. The post holders will be expected to contribute to audit and other elements of clinical governance. A detailed job plan will be agreed with the successful candidate at the time of appointment to meet service needs, taking account of the experience, skills and interests of the candidate and how they can best be used within the consultant team. Post holders will be expected to engage in annual appraisal towards revalidation.
Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
CESR (Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration) or Portfolio Pathway route doctors are only eligible to apply for a substantive Consultant post once CESR or Portfolio Pathway specialist registration is awarded. Those with an International Recognised Specialist Qualification approved by GMC should have a confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR or Portfolio Pathway Specialist Registration can be made to the GMC.
These posts are advertised as whole time. Candidates unable to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post and, if appointed, an appropriately amended job description will be agreed.
