Building Support Assistant
Location: Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary, Dumfries, DG2 8PS
Salary: £28,291 – £29,175 plus shift enhancements and potential AP/CP payments plus excellent benefits.
Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, working a mixture of earlies, lates, nights and weekends. Shifts 6am-2pm 2pm-10pm and 10pm-6am.

As a Building Support Assistant in our Health team, you’ll help keep vital hospital facilities running safely and efficiently, supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities that directly impact patient care and wellbeing.
From maintaining essential plant and equipment to supporting technical teams on-site, your work will play a key role in ensuring a safe, compliant, and reliable healthcare environment. Every task you complete contributes to a positive impact on communities, helping deliver safe spaces where care can thrive and lives can be supported every day.
What you’ll do as a Building Support Assistant
You’ll be entrusted to:
- Support planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive repairs across engineering plant and equipment
- Carry out tasks such as filter changes, ductwork cleaning, and lighting replacements
- Assist technicians and craftspeople with fault finding, diagnostics, and repairs
- Complete service records, work orders, and logbooks using CAFM systems
- Work safely in a range of environments, including plant rooms and confined spaces
- Escort contractors and communicate effectively with colleagues regarding maintenance activities
Does this sound like you?
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- Experience in a building services or maintenance environment
- Relevant technical training or NVQ qualifications and health and safety awareness
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
- Good IT skills and confidence using digital systems
- The ability to work under pressure, manage priorities, and meet deadlines
Vetting and checks:
An Enhanced DBS check is required for this role. This includes spent and unspent convictions, cautions, and any relevant information held by local police, in accordance with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and safeguarding requirements. You will also complete an Occupational Health Questionnaire to allow us to provide any support needed for you to succeed in the role.
