Salary: £50,100 - £60,000 + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
As Group Policy Manager, you will sit in the Group Policy and Public Affairs team within the Group Corporate Affairs function, and the job holder will be expected to work with policy and regulation teams across SSE to coordinate the development of SSE’s positioning and input into the policy development process. The role will also involve actively engaging with external stakeholders to understand their views and shape the views of the wider stakeholder community on key priority areas. The role will primarily focus on UK policy but will also contribute to the team’s work on Irish and EU policy developments. The role is one of three Policy Managers and will involve working across SSE’s market facing businesses but will largely focus on the areas of one or two Business Units to allow for development of constructive working relationships internally, and allow the job holder to focus and specialise to become an industry expert in certain policy areas.
You will
-Through accurate and in-depth reading of the energy contest, gather and analyse up to date information on political, governmental and key influencer activities to provide policy advice and strategic support to SSE’s businesses.
-Represent SSE externally and build and manage relationships with key policy influencers to support policy development.
-Help coordinate SSE’s policy development and ensure engagement plans are in place for each issue, including cross-team and department collaboration where required.
-Keep knowledge of business priorities, energy markets, and regulatory and policy landscape current and relevant, so that policy development (and therefore the business decision-making associated with it) takes place in the appropriate context.
You have
-Extensive experience within the energy sector, government, or UK policy environments, alongside a strong understanding of energy markets, industry developments, and the UK policy landscape. You’re comfortable navigating policy processes and contributing to shaping outcomes.
-A proactive and collaborative self-starter with a genuine interest in the energy sector, who enjoys working through complex challenges and delivering high-quality, well-considered insight under tight deadlines.
-Excellent communicator with clarity and purpose, translating complex information into accessible, engaging messages for senior leaders, government stakeholders and wider audiences.
-The ability to build trusted relationships with ease, working across teams and networks to share insight, raise awareness and support collective goals.
-A thoughtful and analytical approach, able to explore challenges from different perspectives and develop practical, well-balanced solutions.
-Degree qualified, ideally with postgraduate study in a relevant discipline such as Energy Policy, Environmental Policy, Politics or Law.
-Experience of working with data, with the ability to interpret and apply numerical and technical information to support decision-making.
