Base Location: For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office – Perth, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness.
Salary: £124,200 - £186,200 + car /car allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role
As a member of the Offshore Directorate Leadership team, you will lead the delivery of a programme of large capital HVDC interconnector projects within the Offshore Delivery portfolio with a cumulative programme value (and financial responsibility) of circa £5-10bn over the current forecast period of 2026-2036. As Programme Director, you will contribute to Directorate Strategic Planning, Budget Setting and you will sit on Project Boards, the Directorate Safety Health and Wellbeing Committee and Transmission Executive Sub Committees, as required.
• Safely deliver a programme of complex and concurrent mega High Voltage DC Interconnector projects with a cumulative programme value of c.£5-10bn over the period of 2026-2036.
• Champion SSEN Transmission’s Safety, Project and Leadership values and provide inspirational leadership, clear direction, guidance, support and challenge to your project teams.
• Establish organisational structures, resources and process for the safe delivery of your projects on time, with effective governance and financial, commercial, quality and risk management disciplines.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders to positively influence the delivery of our portfolio of projects and wider Transmission and SSE business objectives, including Joint Venture partners, government bodies, regulatory authorities and industry partners.
• Develop and maintaining excellent Partnership Working relationships with senior Supply Chain Partner counterparts.
• Negotiate individual Contract terms and conditions with Supply Chain Partners prior to execution and successfully manage Supply Chain Partnership relations during execution to ensure ‘Best for Project’ outcomes are secured.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
• A degree in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience with significant leadership experience in large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Substantial experience in the safe and timely execution of large, complex multi-billion-pound offshore transmission, marine, or renewable energy projects.
• A strong understanding of project governance, risk management, and financial forecasting within a regulated utility environment.
• Advanced knowledge of project controls, contract negotiation (NEC3, FIDIC) and offshore construction management.
• Excellent leadership, stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate complex project challenges.
