The department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Services in NHS Fife and the Scottish Arthroplasty Fellow Research Sub-Committee wishes to appoint a clinical and research fellow. This is a 1 year, fixed term post which will be 50% clinical in NHS Fife Orthopaedics, and 50% research-based. This post is ideally suited to someone who is preparing to make an application for either ST1 or ST3 level NTN in Trauma and Orthopaedics. In order to develop their research portfolio and continue to build on clinical experience.
The post provides a unique opportunity for a highly motivated individual to access SAP data for research purposes. The post-holder will carry out both self-directed research and allocated projects from the SAP Research Sub-Committee, and will also be expected to carry out quality improvement and research projects from NHS fife. The post-holder is expected to publish work in high quality peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international level.
The clinical aspect of the job will be based at NHS Fife University Health Board in the orthopaedic department, providing clinical activity to OPD, ward and theatre cover, and would participate in the middle grade on-call rota including out-of-hours (currently a 1:16 partial shift rota).
The department has a strong record in research as well as links with Edinburgh and St Andrew's Universities. The post holder would be expected to assist with the teaching of medical students from St Andrews. There are ample opportunities to take part in either audit or quality improvement projects during the post.
The Trust serves a catchment area with a population of 380,000 across Fife with the post being based at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. On occasion you may be required to work at one of the other facilities used by NHS Fife at Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline and St Andrews Memorial Hospital.
