The Roles
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking two exceptional senior nursing leaders to join the Executive Nurse Director’s senior team as Deputy Directors of Nursing.
These are key strategic leadership roles within Scotland’s largest NHS Board, providing professional and clinical leadership across nursing and midwifery and supporting the delivery of safe, effective, person-centred care across a complex health and social care system.
The Posts
Post 1: Deputy Director of Nursing – Corporate Strategy
This post will provide senior strategic and professional leadership across a broad corporate nursing and midwifery portfolio. Key areas include Board-wide nursing and midwifery strategy, quality, safe staffing, workforce development, practice education, professional governance, scrutiny and assurance.
The post holder will support the Executive Nurse Director in strengthening nursing and midwifery leadership, governance, workforce planning and continuous improvement across NHSGGC.
Post 2: Deputy Director of Nursing – Community and Integrated Health
This post will provide senior professional and clinical leadership across community, integrated and partnership-based nursing services. The role will support professional governance, quality improvement, workforce development and integrated service planning across complex care pathways and service interfaces.
The post holder will work closely with Health and Social Care Partnerships, Chief Nurses and wider system partners to strengthen leadership and assurance across community and integrated care settings.
About You
We are looking for experienced, credible and compassionate senior nursing leaders with the judgement, influence and professional authority to operate effectively at executive level within a large and complex health and social care system.
You will bring a strong track record in strategic nursing leadership, professional governance, quality improvement, workforce development and delivery of change across organisational and professional boundaries.
Applicants must hold current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration and demonstrate a clear commitment to the NHS Scotland values of care and compassion; dignity and respect; openness, honesty and responsibility; and quality and teamwork.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
- Educated to master’s level or able to demonstrate equivalent senior professional experience.
- Substantial senior nursing leadership experience within a large, complex health, care or public sector environment.
- Strong strategic leadership skills, with experience of developing and delivering organisational strategy, service improvement and transformational change.
- Proven experience of professional governance, clinical quality, assurance, risk management and safe staffing.
- Ability to influence, advise and work effectively with executive colleagues, senior clinicians, Health and Social Care Partnerships and wider stakeholders.
- Strong communication, judgement and decision-making skills, including the ability to operate effectively in complex and sensitive situations.
- Commitment to compassionate, inclusive and values-based leadership aligned to NHS Scotland values.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
