The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Medical Secretary within the Dermatology Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will provide secretarial and administrative support to the secretarial and clinical team within Dermatology. The role is diverse, providing medical secretarial support for the delivery of outpatient clinical care. You will be required to work with a high degree of confidentiality, diplomacy and tact, and have a sound understanding of Board and departmental policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills are essential to ensure information is communicated accurately and in a timely manner. You will be expected to work independently without supervision, demonstrate excellent organisational skills, be self-motivated, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. You will also be required to complete all statutory and mandatory training and, in conjunction with your Line Manager, undertake any additional training required to meet your personal objectives and the needs of the service.
This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- This post is permanent.
- This is a full-time post working 36 hours per week based within the Dermatology Department at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
- These hours will be worked Monday to Friday
Key responsibilities:
You will provide comprehensive medical secretarial and administrative support to the Dermatology service, ensuring the efficient delivery of outpatient clinical care. You will manage a varied workload, maintain patient confidentiality at all times, communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, and ensure work is completed accurately and within required timescales. You will support the clinical team by working proactively, prioritising competing demands, and maintaining flexibility to meet the needs of the service.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- HNC/SVQ III in Secretarial Studies/Business Administration or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant experience in an NHS or healthcare administrative role.
- Advanced keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office packages.
- Proficiency in medical terminology is preferred.
- Good organisational and communication skills, including the ability to prioritise and work under pressure to tight timescales.
- Flexible approach and an understanding of the principles of good teamwork.
- Ability to work proactively on your own initiative, flexibly and independently.
